Veteran Councillor is the first patient to receive covid19 vaccine in Stortford

Veteran councillor Angela Alder was the first patient to receive the new Covid-19 vaccine in Bishop’s Stortford on Friday afternoon (Dec 18).
The stalwart of Age Concern at the New Apton Centre in Stortford received the first of two Pfizer injections at a mass immunising centre set up at Bishop’s Stortford Football Club’s ground on the Woodside industrial estate off DunmowRoad. The Sawbridgeworth town and East Herts district councillor, who is East Herts Council’s member champion for isolation, loneliness and dementia, was at the head of the alphabetical queue of people over 80 called by the Stort Valley and Villages Primary Care Network (PCN). The recipients were drawn from the 63,000-strong patient lists of the three surgeries in Stortford – Parsonage, South Street and Church Street – Central Surgery in Sawbridgeworth and Much Hadham Health Centre.
Each appointment takes around 25 minutes to complete paperwork, administer the vaccine and observe each patient for 15 minutes before they leave. Cllr Alder, who is a trustee of Sawbridgeworth’s Hailey Centre and the Sawbridgeworth Young People’s Recreation Centre management committee, must return in 21 days for the second dose.
It will then take a few weeks for her antibodies to reach their optimum level. The vaccine is said to be up to 95% effective once the process is completed.
