Although it is now a National Trust property, the cottage, as its name suggests, was once the home of a priests in the late medieval era.

Legend has it that a nun kept by one of the priests in a secret room at the house died when he left the village for several days. It is reported by Haunted Britain that “strange happenings” occur at the historic house, including banging doors and sightings of a “ghostly monk” have also been reported. Haunted Britain reports: “This hall house was once the residence of priests who served the parish church on the opposite side of the road.
“It has large gothic windows and a long tradition of being haunted. Legends have it that the priest married a nun and they lived together.
