London should consider the “seriousness” of the capital’s coronavirus crisis when considering their plans to open for worship tomorrow.
Sarah Mullally, a former nurse who rose to be Chief Nursing Officer in the Department of Health before entering the church, shared a letter from London Councils asking faith leaders to consider voluntary closures.“ The situation is serious in @dioceseoflondon do read the request from @londoncouncils and consider the seriousness of the situation as you take your local decisions,” she tweeted. The plea comes after Mayor Sadiq Khan declared a major incident in London on Friday as coronavirus cases threaten to overwhelm the capital’s health system. As of Friday there were 7,277 patients with Covid-19 in London hospitals, a 40 per cent increase on the first wave peak in April. Unlike during the first national lockdown, places of worship are permitted to open under the restrictions set out by Boris Johnson this week.
