Archbishop of Canterbury Urges Ministers to Confess Their Pandemic Fears to God

Archbishop of Canterbury has said he prays for the Prime Minister every day and urged Boris Johnson and his Cabinet to “confess” their regrets over the handling of the pandemic to God.

The Most Rev Justin Welby’s comments came after the UK passed 100,000 coronavirus deaths on Tuesday. He told BBC Breakfast: “I pray for our politicians each day, our political leaders, including the Prime Minister, because they’re human, they’re deeply, deeply human. “There will be things they’ve got wrong, because they’re human. “Today is a day for solidarity and support, there will be inquiries in the future, that is quite right, but today is for solidarity. Defending the government, Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick insisted the Government took coronavirus “extremely seriously” throughout. He told ITV’s Good Morning Britain: “The Prime Minister that I have watched throughout this crisis has approached this with huge seriousness.
“He is someone who himself came close to death as a result of the virus and that had a huge and lasting impact on him and his family, as you would expect.”
